The Blue Lagoon
is a disused brickpit in Bletchley, Bucks which was remodelled in the late eighties by Milton Keynes Development Corporation. It is now a nature reserve with an attractive string of ponds with winding paths, bridges, boardwalk and picnic tables, surrounded by hills planted with woodland.

This website attempts to unite the different histories of the site. The menu on the left provides links to all the pages, but the order is not sequencial and the story is not comprehensive. Students chose an aspect to research and designed their own pages. For more information about this ESF funded training course please refer to the credits page.
  • The brickworks and the people who worked there,
  • the technology they used and how it changed over time
  • the effect of the brick industry on the surrounding neighbourhoods in Bletchley.
  • The unique geology of the Oxford Clay belt which made this location important in the production of bricks.
  • The Blue Lagoon and the habitat it provides for wildlife and plants.

The following pages contain word for word extracts from interviews with Bletchley residents who contributed to the project. The research includes primary source material from Bigger, Brighter, Better - documentary musical play by Living Archive produced in 1996 and the book of the same name. Please refer to the credits page for a full bibliography and Thank You list.
